The bill would add Section 683.015(f) and (g) to the Transportation Code, to allow a law enforcement agency to use funds from proceeds gained from the sale of a motor vehicle abandoned as a result of a vehicular pursuit involving the law enforcement agency for compensating property owners whose property was damaged as a result of a pursuit, regardless if the agency would be liable under Chapter 101, Civil Practice and Remedies Code. The funds would be those transferred under subsection (d), which are funds transferred by a municipality or a county from general revenue to provide for law enforcement use. The bill stipulates limits on the amount of compensation. Prior to a law enfocement agency compensating a property owner using funds transferred to a county, the sheriff or constable must submit the proposed payment for consideration at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the county commissioners court.
