A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to school district publishing of Texas Education Agency
and United States Department of Education general information in
student handbooks and online.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 11.177 to read as follows:
Sec. 11.177. DISTRICT WEBSITE: LINKS TO STATE AND FEDERAL
EDUCATION AGENCIES. A school district that maintains an Internet
website shall make available to the public on the website:
(1) a link to the agency's Internet website; and
(2) a link to the United States Department of
Education Internet website.
SECTION 2. Chapter 26, Education Code, is amended by adding
Section 26.017 to read as follows:
Sec. 26.017. INFORMATION IN STUDENT HANDBOOK. Each school
district shall publish general information regarding the agency and
the United States Department of Education in the district's student
handbook.
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010
school year.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
