                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 14, 2009      TO: Honorable Pete Gallego, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence      FROM: John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB498 by McClendon (Relating to the creation of a commission to investigate and prevent wrongful convictions. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would create the Timothy Cole Texas Innocence Commission to investigate all post-conviction exonerations.   Appointed members of the commission are not entitled to compensation but are entitled to reimbursement of the members travel expenses.  The Texas Legislative Council, the Legislative Budget Board, and the University of Texas at Austin shall assist the commission in performing the commissions duties. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
