The bill would amend Texas Education Code Section 51.803, relating to limitations on the automatic admission of undergraduate students to general academic teaching institutions. The bill would authorize a general academic institution to limit automatic admission to no less than 40 percent of its first-time resident undergraduate students. If the number of applicants exceeded the number of reserved spaces, the applicants would be offered admission by percentile rank. Remaining applicants would be considered for admission by criteria consistent with those used for other first time students. There would be no significant fiscal impact on the state as this bill would not affect overall state enrollment in institutions of higher education and would not require significant changes to current enrollment processes. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
