 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to designating August as American Indian Scouts Month.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
 amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows:
 Sec. 662.106.  AMERICAN INDIAN SCOUTS MONTH. (a) August is
 American Indian Scouts Month to recognize as Texas heroes the
 Native American scouts who served with the United States Army
 during the frontier era of the middle to late 1800s and celebrate
 the contributions of those individuals as marking a meaningful
 chapter in the saga of this nation.
 (b)  American Indian Scouts Month shall be regularly
 observed by appropriate celebrations and activities.
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
