Under current statute, starting September 1, 2009, a local government entity with a population of more than 100,000 will be authorized to use certain procurement methods for public projects that currently apply only to a local government with a population of 500,000 or more. Authorization is set to expire September 1, 2011. Local Government Impact Provisions of the bill would remove the ending date of authorization for using those procurement methods, which would allow those entities to continue to have greater flexibility in making purchases beyond September 1, 2011. No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
