A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the jurisdiction of the commissioner of education to
hear appeals arising under the school laws of this state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 7.057(f)(2), Education Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(2) "School laws of this state" means laws codified in
Title 1 and this title and rules adopted under those titles. The
term does not include a law outside of Title 1 or this title:
(A) to which Title 1 or this title makes a
reference; or
(B) with which Title 1 or this title requires
compliance.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
