 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to an exemption from the food stamp employment and
 training program requirement for certain persons.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Chapter 33, Human Resources Code, is amended by
 adding Section 33.0126 to read as follows:
 Sec. 33.0126.  EXEMPTION FROM FOOD STAMP EMPLOYMENT AND
 TRAINING PROGRAM. A person is not required to register for the food
 stamp employment and training program authorized under 7 U.S.C.
 Section 2015(d) if the person:
 (1) works an average of at least 20 hours each week; or
 (2)  receives an average weekly wage that is equal to at
 least 20 times the minimum wage established under Section 62.051,
 Labor Code.
 SECTION 2. If before implementing any provision of this Act
 a state agency determines that a waiver or authorization from a
 federal agency is necessary for implementation of that provision,
 the agency affected by the provision shall request the waiver or
 authorization and may delay implementing that provision until the
 waiver or authorization is granted.
 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
