H.C.R. No. 207 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The family and friends of Jack Ray Stevenson of Bogata were saddened by the passing of this esteemed gentleman on April 13, 2009, at the age of 100; and WHEREAS, Born on June 3, 1908, to Evie and Thomas Jackson Stevenson, in Red River Parish, in Louisiana, Jack Stevenson joined the workforce at the age of 17, serving as a blacksmith with Magnolia Oil Company; he was later transferred to Duncanville, where he became a welder and pipefitter for Mobil Oil, retiring after 41 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson went on to enjoy 41 years in retirement; he was active in Cockrell Hill United Methodist Church for nearly six decades before moving to Bogata, where he joined the local First United Methodist Church and also attended Bogata Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Mae Haws Stevenson, with whom he shared 56 years; fortunate to find love a second time, he married Frances Edna Jones and they enjoyed 12 fulfilling years together; and WHEREAS, Jack Stevenson touched the lives of many people during his 100 years, and those who shared in the warmth of his love and friendship will forever hold his memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the life of Jack Ray Stevenson and extend sincere sympathy to his family members: to his daughters, Melba Knight and Rene Haney and her husband, Bill; to his sons, Don Stevenson and his wife, Gina, and Rob Stevenson and his wife, Carol; to his stepdaughters, Barbara Miller and Karen Cude and her husband, Martin; to his brother, Rex Stevenson, and his wife, Lillian; to his half-brothers, James and Henry Collinsworth; to his daughter-in-law, Shirley Stevenson; to his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Jack Ray Stevenson.
