 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Sam D. R. Satterwhite is concluding his service on
 the board of trustees for the Wylie Independent School District in
 2009, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor him
 for his many contributions, not only to the community's schools but
 also to numerous other civic endeavors; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Satterwhite has served as the executive
 director of the Wylie Economic Development Corporation since 1996,
 and he has been instrumental in the establishment of many new area
 businesses, which in turn have created over 2,500 jobs and
 generated a total investment of nearly $219 million; and
 WHEREAS, One example of his farsighted efforts is the
 building of the Woodbridge Crossing shopping center, which came
 about through his collaboration with former Dallas Cowboys star
 Troy Aikman and the Direct Development firm; moreover,
 Mr. Satterwhite successfully negotiated with the Kansas City
 Southern Railway Company to remove the main-line track along
 Highway 78, an achievement that made a significant and positive
 difference in the city; his service to his fellow citizens has been
 further expressed through his productive tenure on the school
 board, which began in 2006, and through his work as the president of
 the Wylie Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and 2001; and
 WHEREAS, A compassionate community leader, he worked long
 hours to assist the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who arrived in
 Wylie in 2005, helping them to find a new home in Texas and to secure
 employment in the area; he also fostered one of the evacuees so that
 the young man could finish his senior year of high school in Wylie;
 moreover, Mr. Satterwhite plays a central role in organizing the
 Wylie Christian Care Golf Tournament each year, which provides
 essential support for the local charity food pantry; and
 WHEREAS, Samuel Douglas Ross Satterwhite was born in Ennis
 and grew up in Rockwall, and he received his first lessons in public
 service from his father, former Texas state representative William
 T. Satterwhite; the youngest of four children, Sam Satterwhite
 graduated from Rockwall High School in 1986 as the vice president of
 his class and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in political
 science at Baylor University; he and his wife, Kate, have two
 daughters, Allie and Sarah, and a son, Brian, and Mr. Satterwhite
 serves as the coach for the children's soccer teams; and
 WHEREAS, Through his commendable dedication to a wide range
 of activities, Sam Satterwhite has helped make Wylie an even better
 place to live and work, and the city's residents are indeed
 fortunate to have the continuing benefit of his talents; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Sam D. R. Satterwhite for his many
 contributions to the city of Wylie and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Satterwhite as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
