at the Georgetown--Williamson County Veterans Memorial in Sun City
to solemnly honor all the men and women who have served, or who are
presently serving, in the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, The toll of war has been a heavy one: altogether,
more than a half-million U.S. military personnel have died in
battle, and approximately 1.5 million have been wounded; thousands
more have endured extreme privation as prisoners of war, and still
other thousands have been accounted as missing in action; and
WHEREAS, In communities across the country, citizens have
erected monuments as a tangible tribute to those who have dared all
in defiance of tyranny and in their country's defense; the majestic

from Williamson County who have given their lives in combat from
World War I to the present; and
WHEREAS, This year, the memorial tablets listing those killed
in action bear two new names, those of U.S. Army Specialist Matthew

outstanding young men were mortally wounded while conducting
 operations in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, With U.S. troops today engaged in difficult
operations overseas, endeavoring to secure peace and stability in
dangerous environments, Memorial Day ceremonies resonate with

military personnel; now, therefore, be it
