H.R. No. 1305 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Paul Strelzin is being inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009, in the supporter of athletics category; and WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, and a longtime resident of El Paso, Mr. Strelzin is well-known to El Paso residents as a talk-radio host; he also worked for the El Paso Independent School District for 30 years, retiring as principal of Bowie High School; and WHEREAS, Known as "The Strelz" or "The Mouth" to his fans, Mr. Strelzin served as announcer for several of El Paso's professional teams, including the El Paso Buzzards hockey team and the El Paso Diablos baseball team; and WHEREAS, Mr. Strelzin was also the announcer for the Miners basketball and football teams of The University of Texas at El Paso, where his enthusiasm and his booming cry of "Mmmmmminer ball!" at UTEP basketball games became a part of Miners tradition; and WHEREAS, For many years, Paul Strelzin has been a vital participant in the sporting scene in El Paso, and it is most fitting that his unique contribution should be honored with this prestigious recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Paul Strelzin on his induction into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Strelzin as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
