 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Members of Congregation Beth Israel in Austin are
 gathering together to express their appreciation of Rabbi Steven
 Folberg on April 18, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Philadelphia, Rabbi Folberg earned his
 bachelor's degree in psychology from La Salle University and was
 ordained at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion
 in New York City in 1985; he went on to serve six years as assistant
 and associate rabbi at Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, New York,
 before moving to Austin in 1991 to become the religious leader of
 Congregation Beth Israel; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable tenure with the
 synagogue, he has served the congregation with love and commitment
 and been a source of wisdom, comfort, and inspiration to many; and
 WHEREAS, Admired for his work as a skilled teacher of
 children and adults alike, Rabbi Folberg has coauthored a high
 school Jewish history textbook, Bright Lights In Dark Times, and he
 has also served on the executive board of the Central Conference of
 American Rabbis; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoys the support of his
 wife, Dr. Saundra Goldman, with whom he has a beloved daughter,
 Shira Lillian; and
 WHEREAS, Rabbi Folberg has demonstrated great dedication to
 the synagogue and to the wider community, and in so doing, he has
 earned the heartfelt admiration of all who know him; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Steven Folberg for his outstanding
 service to Congregation Beth Israel and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Rabbi Folberg as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
