H.R. No. 155 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Veteran educator Vernagene Mott of Pflugerville Independent School District has been elected to a one-year term on the board of directors of the Texas Association of School Boards; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1949, TASB is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to representing and supporting more than a thousand Texas school districts and community colleges; the association is governed by a delegate assembly and a 44-member board of directors made up of representatives from local school boards across the state; and WHEREAS, Vernagene Mott is currently the secretary of the Pflugerville ISD board of trustees, where she has served for four years; as a new member of the TASB board, she will represent TASB Region 13C; and WHEREAS, Herself a graduate of Pflugerville High School, Ms. Mott holds a bachelor's degree with honors in math and chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin; she was a teacher at Pflugerville High School for many years, acting as chair of the math and science departments and as a sponsor of the National Honor Society; from 1964 until her retirement from teaching in 2003, she was a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association; and WHEREAS, This outstanding community leader is also a charter member of the Pflugerville Educators' Association and the Heritage House Museum, as well as a founder of Heritage House Partners; she has been active in water issues, working with the Lower Colorado River Authority Watershed Watch Education Committee and the Manville Water Supply Company board of directors; a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she chaired its 125th Anniversary Committee; and WHEREAS, For her many contributions to her community, Ms. Mott has been recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, The quality of public education in Texas depends greatly on the caring efforts of concerned members of the community, and with her election to the TASB board, Vernagene Mott continues her long history of tireless advocacy on behalf of students and schools; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Vernagene Mott on her election to the Texas Association of School Boards board of directors and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Mott as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
