No. 1627 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Ernest Berlanga Sosa of San Antonio, who died on August 31, 2008, at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, Ernie Sosa was born in San Antonio on February 10, 1927; answering his nation's call to duty, he served in the military during World War II; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sosa learned about the cutting and sewing of fabrics from his father, a tailor, and he began his career working for the custom decorator departments of several businesses, including Joske's Department Store; and WHEREAS, This talented artisan went on to open his own successful business, Interior Design Workshop, which specialized in custom drapery, furniture upholstery, wallpaper, and carpeting; he ran the company for 43 years, until his retirement in 2001; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sosa was active in his community, coaching intramural baseball teams for many years, including a state championship team; he also served on the draft board during the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, Mr. Sosa had a passion for music, and he often treated family gatherings to songs in his "bourbon baritone"; his strong religious faith was likewise an inspiration to those around him; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his family and his faith, Ernest Sosa lived a full and generous life, and though he is no longer with us, the memory of his warm and compassionate spirit will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ernest Berlanga Sosa and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Juanita H. Sosa; to his grandsons, Aaron Sosa and his wife, Camille, Brian Sosa and his wife, Sarah, and Clayton Sosa; to his stepsons, Marco A. Mireles and Eddie Mireles; to his daughter-in-law, Larkin Fields; to his step-grandson, Michael Fields; to his sister, Dora Oviedo, and her husband, Fred; to his brothers, Raul Sosa and Vincent Sosa; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ernest Sosa.
