 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Sharing a deep bond of love that has spanned more
 than six decades, Clarence and Shirley Legler of New Braunfels are
 celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary on May 5, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Clarence Legler of Plum, Texas, met the former
 Shirley Jean May in 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska, when he attended the
 Army Air Corps aeronautical school and she was working a summer job
 at the YMCA; altogether her parents initially opposed the idea of
 their 16-year-old daughter dating a military man, the couple fell
 in love, and they exchanged the vows of matrimony at Trinity
 Lutheran Church in Lincoln on that special day in 1945; over the
 course of their marriage, they have found in each other a devoted
 life partner; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Legler count among their blessings a
 fine family that includes three sons, Kip, Kim, and Ken, four
 grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Krystina, and Kathryn Legler, and one
 great-grandson, Brendan Legler, with whom they share the many
 special occasions of life; and
 WHEREAS, The couple settled in Wichita, Kansas, where
 Mr. Legler helped build the first Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" bomber
 while he was employed with Boeing Aircraft, and Mrs. Legler worked
 with a local dentist; after they began raising their family, they
 moved back to Texas and spent 18 years living in Pasadena, where
 Mr. Legler worked as an aircraft hydraulic specialist for the U.S.
 Department of Defense at Ellington Field until its closure in 1976;
 he transferred to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin and eventually
 retired from the active reserve and the DOD; and
 WHEREAS, When all of her children became of school age,
 Mrs. Legler worked for the Pasadena Independent School District
 before she earned a real estate license and established a
 successful career in Pasadena; when the family moved to Round Rock,
 she continued in the real estate profession and retired as
 secretary to the principal of Round Rock High School; Mr. and Mrs.
 Legler now make their home in New Braunfels, near their family; and
 WHEREAS, Looking back over the past six and a half decades,
 Clarence and Shirley Legler can savor a wealth of cherished family
 memories and know that the strength of their love and commitment
 ensures that many more joyful times await them; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Clarence and Shirley Legler on
 their 64th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best
 wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Legler as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
