 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, For more than a year, the talented young orator
 Dalton Sherman has been inspiring and thrilling audiences
 throughout Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Now finishing the fifth grade at Charles Rice
 Learning Center, where he is an "A" student, a basketball player,
 and a blue belt in karate, Dalton won his initial oratory
 competition when he was in the first grade; his victory at another
 contest in January 2008 has put him in demand for appearances at
 schools and churches all across the city; among his memorable
 engagements was the time he performed an opening speech for an
 appearance by poet Maya Angelou; and
 WHEREAS, At the start of the 2008-2009 school year, Dalton
 addressed some 17,000 teachers of the Dallas Independent School
 District at the American Airlines Center; he prepared for the
 speech with assistance from his mother, fifth-grade teacher Donna
 Sherman, and his oratory coach, fourth-grade teacher Irene Redmond;
 and
 WHEREAS, Speaking before his biggest audience to date, Dalton
 moved the audience of educators to cheers and tears as he inspired
 them to dedicate themselves to the children under their care; since
 that time, the YouTube video of his speech has been viewed nearly
 half a million times, and he was invited to perform the opening
 address of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day celebration at the House
 of Blues in Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Dalton Sherman's energy, enthusiasm, and commitment
 to excellence have already inspired countless people, and he may
 indeed look forward to a future bright with promise; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Dalton Sherman for his extraordinary
 oratorical skill and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dalton Sherman as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
