No. 1834 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Ryan Leigon of Lake Jackson has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program; and WHEREAS, This impressive honor is bestowed on only one percent of the more than 1.5 million students who take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and by winning this recognition, Mr. Leigon has placed himself at the forefront of academic excellence in the nation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Leigon will have already completed 74 hours of college credit at Brazosport College by the time of his Brazosport Area Home School graduation on May 16, 2009; and WHEREAS, In addition to his studies, this notable 17-year-old tutors math and physics at the college and has taken a leadership role at Hope Fellowship Church of Lake Jackson, where he directs a group of high school-age young men; and WHEREAS, Mr. Leigon is an active participant in his community, taking part in the clean-up efforts in Surfside and Galveston after Hurricane Ike; he also works at World In Need, a Christian relief organization in Angleton that distributes disaster aid around the world; and WHEREAS, Accepted at Rice University with a National Merit scholarship, Mr. Leigon will pursue studies in mathematics, physics, and philosophy; and WHEREAS, A source of great pride for his family and his community, Ryan Leigon has demonstrated exceptional intelligence, initiative, and maturity in pursuing his academic goals, and it is indeed a pleasure to commend him for his achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ryan Leigon on his selection as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Leigon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
