No. 1860 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Mid-Texas Symphony has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to help fund the opening concert of its 2009-2010 season, "Passport to the World"; and WHEREAS, This professional symphony orchestra was founded in 1978 by Anita Windecker, a professor at Texas Lutheran University, along with a group of local music enthusiasts; and WHEREAS, The MTS features a variety of regular programs and performances, including three concerts per year in both Seguin and New Braunfels; moreover, it provides free shows for area fourth- and fifth-grade students and sponsors the Young Artist Competition, in which college-age musicians compete to perform with the group; the symphony also enjoys a longstanding partnership with the Van Cliburn Foundation, frequently featuring as guest artists winners and finalists in the Cliburn Competition; and WHEREAS, Numerous dedicated volunteers, a faithful audience, and local business sponsors have contributed to the growth and success of the MTS; moreover, it is supported by the Mid-Texas Symphony Guild chapters in New Braunfels and Seguin that have developed such educational initiatives as the Debutante program for high school students, the Cotillion program for middle school students, and the Color of Music program for elementary school students; and WHEREAS, Delighting audiences for more than three decades, the Mid-Texas Symphony has enriched the communities of New Braunfels and Seguin and helped to inspire a new generation of performers and listeners; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Mid-Texas Symphony on its receipt of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and extend to all those associated with this notable organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Mid-Texas Symphony as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
