 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a system of
 exercise and teachings rooted in ancient Chinese culture that seeks
 to refine the body and transform the spirit; and
 WHEREAS, Consisting of gentle movements and meditation,
 Falun Dafa is based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion,
 and forbearance; the practice was first introduced to the public in
 1992, and today it has followers in more than 80 countries; and
 WHEREAS, Every year, supporters gather together for World
 Falun Dafa Day, celebrating the beauty of Falun Dafa, the spirit of
 its principles, and the efforts of practitioners fighting for their
 human rights in response to persecution from the Chinese Communist
 Party; and
 WHEREAS, May 13, 2009, is the 17th annual World Falun Dafa
 Day, and to join the global celebration, practitioners in Texas
 will hold an event on the south side of the Capitol on Saturday, May
 16; and
 WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Falun Dafa has helped
 countless Texans to lead healthier, less stressful lives by working
 to improve their health, purify their minds, and uplift their
 spirit; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate World Falun Dafa Day on May 13,
 2009, and the special observance to be held on the Capitol grounds
 on May 16, 2009, and extend to all practitioners sincere best wishes
 for a meaningful observance.
