 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Complementary and alternative medicine is a group of
 diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products
 that are used in addition to or in place of conventional medicine to
 treat all aspects of well-being; and
 WHEREAS, Texans have long enjoyed the freedom to choose from
 a wide variety of complementary and alternative modalities to
 improve and sustain their health, and today numerous Texans receive
 care from complementary and alternative health care providers; and
 WHEREAS, A number of surveys, including one published in
 December 2008 by the National Center for Complementary and
 Alternative Medicine, have shown that these types of health care
 services are used by individuals of all ages from diverse ethnic and
 socioeconomic backgrounds; and
 WHEREAS, Complementary and alternative medicine therapies
 range from acupuncture and massage to natural products such as fish
 oil and echinacea, and they are used to help treat an array of
 diseases and conditions; and
 WHEREAS, The health and welfare of countless people have been
 enhanced by the practice of complementary and alternative health
 care and an increased awareness of these therapies could benefit
 many; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize January 25-31, 2009, as Texas Health
 Freedom Week and encourage all Texans to seek optimal health.
