No. 2240 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to recognize the members of the Central Texas College Students in Free Enterprise team for their outstanding accomplishments; and WHEREAS, An international nonprofit organization, SIFE empowers university students to make a difference in their communities while preparing them to become socially responsible business leaders, and it has nearly 1,400 active teams on campuses in 41 countries; its participants apply business concepts in developing outreach projects that improve the quality of life for people in need, and they present the results of these projects at an annual series of regional and national competitions, at which they are judged by a panel of business leaders; and WHEREAS, In April 2009, the Central Texas College SIFE team competed in Dallas, where it earned regional honors for two-year colleges and was named a finalist in the Program Sustainability category; in addition, the group won first place for the 2009 national competition and is a national finalist for Team Sustainability; and WHEREAS, The Central Texas College team has 25 members, who are ably led by two Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows, Dr. John Frith and professor Les Ledger; those students who are participating in the national competition include: Chastity Clemons, Rhaiza Luna, Jennifer Napolez, Rendell Harrell, William Smith, Kara McVey, Mark Hyde, and Charles McManus; and WHEREAS, Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance these fine young Texans have built an impressive record of achievement, and they may indeed look forward to a bright and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Central Texas College Students in Free Enterprise team on its 2009 regional and national victories and extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Central Texas College SIFE team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
