No. 2317 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt at the loss of U.S. Air Force Major Rodolpho Ivan Rodriguez of El Paso, who died on September 20, 2008, at the age of 34; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 86th Construction and Training Squadron at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Major Rodriguez was one of 53 people killed when an improvised explosive device detonated outside a hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan; and WHEREAS, Major Rodriguez was a 1993 graduate of Ysleta High School, where he played football and baseball and was a member of the band; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1998 and to serve in civil engineer units, including Vandenberg Air Force Base in California; he spent six months deployed at Kirkuk Air Base in Iraq in 2006 and was on his third Central Command assignment at the time of his death; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to his family, Rodolpho Rodriguez made regular trips home while he was in the academy, never missing the birthdays of his loved ones; moreover, he inspired relatives and friends alike with his intelligence, kindness, and hard work; and WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose devotion to their country inspires them to take up military service, and their committed efforts and enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect and gratitude; and WHEREAS, Major Rodriguez embodied the highest ideals of the United States Air Force, and the blessing of his life will be forever cherished by those who were privileged to share in his love and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Major Rodolpho Rodriguez and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Caryn Rodriguez; to his mother, Minerva Rivas; to his brothers, Edgar and Fernando Rivas; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rodolpho Ivan Rodriguez.
