81R33027 JKB-D By: Edwards H.R. No. 2357 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Brittany Winfrey has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2009 at Evan E. Worthing High School in Houston, and for achieving this significant honor, she indeed merits special recognition; and WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest academic standards; the student who garners this coveted distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and preparation are myriad; Ms. Winfrey is secretary of the student council and captain of the soccer and cheerleading teams at Worthing; she is a member of Business Professionals of America and the National Honor Society, has taken the first place prize at the UIL computer arts and science fair, and plans to study microbiology at Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being recognized as the highest achieving student in her class, the valedictorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and grants; she also gains the opportunity to address her fellow seniors at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as well as their hopes and ambitions for the future; and WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, Brittany Winfrey has earned the respect and admiration of her teachers and classmates at Worthing, and her exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have surely opened the way to limitless opportunities for this noteworthy young Texan; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Brittany Winfrey on being named the 2009 valedictorian at Evan E. Worthing High School and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Winfrey as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
