81R6214 MG-D By: Davis of Dallas H.R. No. 240 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Dallas is hosting its 44th annual C. A. W. Clark Human Relations Banquet on February 6, 2009; and WHEREAS, For more than five decades, the IMA has worked to fulfill its mission of reaching out to underserved members of the community; this outstanding network of ministers has launched numerous development, education, and employment initiatives, and its service projects include providing health referrals and utility bill assistance, maintaining food pantries, and counseling prison inmates; and WHEREAS, The annual IMA banquet offers the organization an opportunity to educate other concerned citizens on the group's mission and to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the community; in addition to college-bound high school graduates who are receiving scholarships, the 2009 honorees and their respective accolades include: Irvin Ashford, Jr., Human Relations Award; Dr. Karry D. Wesley, Minister of the Year Award; the Reverend Reginald Williams, C. A. W. Clark Prince of Preachers Award; the Reverend Darryl Pryor, Young Minister of the Year Award; Evergreen Funeral Home/Allen Madison, Business Award; South Dallas Cafe/James Price, Business Award; Heath G. Harris, Esq., Civic Award; the Honorable Carolyn Davis, Community Service Award; the Honorable Carla Ranger, Education Award; Zachary Thompson, Health Care Award; the Reverend James Pruitt, President's Award; and Bishop J. Neaul Haynes, President's Award; and WHEREAS, This year's keynote speaker is Bishop Charles E. Blake, the presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ and pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Southern California; Bishop Blake will share his uplifting vision for the future and speak on the theme "Moving Forward in Challenging Times"; proceeds from the banquet are funding the organization's community support services and academic scholarships; and WHEREAS, The IMA is a vital group of caring individuals who are committed to serving their community, and throughout its history of civic involvement, the organization has benefited countless Texans in myriad ways; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Dallas for its efforts in behalf of area residents and extend to all those affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for a memorable event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the IMA as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
