No. 2412 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Arlene Nichols of Houston, who died on April 9, 2009, at the age of 62; and WHEREAS, Arlene Ann Dacey was born on May 29, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island; she married William Nichols, with whom she shared 43 years; they were blessed with four children, John, Drue, Jennifer, and Sandra; and WHEREAS, Actively engaged in the life of her community in Northeast Houston, Ms. Nichols worked with management districts, civic clubs, and government agencies, and she played an important role in such civic matters as law enforcement, mass transit, junkyard regulation, children's health, and other issues; she helped to found the Aldine Ratepayers Association and helped improve street lighting in the Airline district; and WHEREAS, For more than 18 years, Ms. Nichols was an aide to State Representative Kevin Bailey of District 140; she served as an insightful and effective liaison for constituents and helped to establish the Greenspoint, Airline, and Aldine management districts; and WHEREAS, Arlene Nichols worked tirelessly in behalf of her community, and the memory of her civic engagement, her concern for others, and her ever-present smile will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Arlene Nichols and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband, William Nichols; to her son, John Nichols; to her daughters, Drue Miller, Jennifer Spainhower, and Sandra Dennis; to her mother, Dorothy Dacey; to her brother, Thomas Dacey; to her four grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Arlene Nichols.
