No. 242 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Community colleges and their students play an indispensible role in the continuing prosperity of Texas, and on February 4, 2009, students from Tarrant County College are visiting the State Capitol to take part in Community College Student Day; and WHEREAS, More than half a million students from a broad range of backgrounds attend public community colleges in Texas, making up approximately half of the state's college enrollment; whether they are pursuing a one-year certificate, a two-year associate's degree, or preparing to continue at a university, these hardworking students play a crucial role in ensuring the vitality and promise of the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, With a combined enrollment of more than 48,000 students, the four campuses of Tarrant County College serve traditional college-age students and offer refresher courses and retraining to those in the continuing education program; TCC's diverse offerings include coursework in business, the humanities, and math and technology, along with thriving programs in criminal justice, aviation maintenance, the culinary arts, electronics, and many disciplines in the health sciences; another outstanding resource is the school's Center for Distance Learning, which gives students the opportunity to fit classes into busy schedules; and WHEREAS, The students at TCC are finding ample opportunity there for enrichment and professional training, and through their dedication to their studies and commitment to excellence, they are building a brighter future for themselves and for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby welcome the Tarrant County College students who are visiting the State Capitol on Community College Student Day and extend to them sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable visit to Austin.
