No. 2657 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Lydia Garza has provided indispensable support to her fellow citizens in Hebbronville for many years; she is well known for her work with Chapter 2955 of AARP, having served as a member of its advisory board and as chair of the legislative committee, and she has also benefited her community in numerous other ways throughout her life; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Carmen and Benito Garza, Lydia Garza was raised in Hebbronville, attended local schools, and performed in the Hebbronville High School band; she was also a member of Future Homemakers of America and the Hijas de Maria, and she served as an ambassador to the international celebration between the United States and Mexico on the occasion of the inauguration of Falcon Dam and the 100th anniversary of Guerrero Viejo, Mexico, where she was honored by a host of dignitaries, including President Dwight D. Eisenhower; and WHEREAS, She married Hector Garza in 1953, and the couple raised a loving family that includes three sons, Jorge, Hector, and Jose; Mrs. Garza was a Cub Scout den mother and a sponsor for Boy Scout activities, and she served on the Little Flower School Board; moreover, she has been honored for her diligent service to the Jim Hogg County Independent School District by the school board president and the superintendent; and WHEREAS, This determined volunteer is a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and has served 19 consecutive years on the Fair Pageant Committee; she was also a sponsor of the Catholic Youth Choir, a member of the adult choir, and president of the Immaculate Society; and WHEREAS, The strength of Texas communities lies in the hard work of public-spirited citizens like Lydia Garza, and it is a pleasure to recognize her for her numerous contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Lydia Garza for her volunteer service in the city of Hebbronville and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
