 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, An outstanding record of civic service was honored
 at the First Lady Tea on March 22, 2009, as Renda Hickerson was
 named First Lady of Waxahachie, becoming the 61st person to hold
 that coveted title; and
 WHEREAS, A Greenville native, Mrs. Hickerson grew up in Waco
 and Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School; she went
 on to obtain a degree from North Texas State Teachers College and
 worked as a teacher at Coleman High School; she met her future
 husband, Marcus Hickerson, while attending college, and the couple
 lived in Texas and California while raising their family; and
 WHEREAS, After she and her husband returned to Waxahachie,
 Mrs. Hickerson involved herself in numerous community endeavors;
 she has served on the Waxahachie Park Board and the Planning and
 Zoning Commission, and she is a member of the Heirloom Club and
 Gardeners Limited; her interest in horticulture also inspired her
 to help implement a memorial garden in Getzendaner Park; moreover,
 she has served on the Historic Preservation Committee of Waxahachie
 and the courthouse tours committee, designed plantings at a local
 elementary school, and, as a former Crape Myrtle Queen, contributed
 to the founding of the Crape Myrtle Council; and
 WHEREAS, Renda Hickerson has demonstrated her dedication to
 her community in many ways, and her selection as First Lady justly
 recognizes her efforts in behalf of the city she loves so well; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Renda Hickerson on her selection as
 the 2009 First Lady of Waxahachie and extend to her sincere best
 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Hickerson as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
