H.R. No. 2693 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Waxahachie High School Indians powerlifting team turned in exceptional performances and captured the regional championship at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region 3 Division 1 meet on March 12, 2009; and WHEREAS, This title, the first powerlifting crown in school history, was won in dramatic fashion; on the last lift of the day, Aaron Herrera set a personal record in the deadlift and sealed the Indians' victory, thereby earning the team a place at the state meet; and WHEREAS, Three other Waxahachie lifters, Ryan White, Andrew Kindred, and individual regional champion Carlos Cadena, also qualified for the state finals in Abilene, and this marks the second consecutive year that Mr. Cadena and Mr. Herrera have attained that distinction; and WHEREAS, Coaches Rocky Robinson and Terry Minton have played an essential role in the Indians' success throughout the season, inspiring the lifters to perform to the peak of their abilities; in recognition of their accomplishments, Mr. Robinson and Mr. Minton were honored with the Region 3 Outstanding Coaches Award; and WHEREAS, Through long hours of preparation and unwavering determination, the Waxahachie lifters have fulfilled their goal of winning a regional championship, and the memory of this triumph will provide them with further confidence as they prepare for the athletic challenges that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Waxahachie High School Indians powerlifting team on winning the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region 3 Division 1 championship and extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
