R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2008 marked the 50th anniversary of the
founding of the Sonora Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization dates back to October 1958,
when several interested Sonora residents convened to discuss the
possibility of establishing a local chamber; they agreed
unanimously that such a group would benefit the city and
subsequently elected the chamber's first board of directors; the
meeting also resulted in 66 signed membership cards and some $600
pledged in monthly dues; and
WHEREAS, Today, the chamber boasts more than 200 business
memberships and is an integral part of the community; in addition to
promoting local businesses, it organizes civic activities and
festivals and works to attract tourism to the area; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to fostering economic growth, the Sonora
Chamber of Commerce has contributed significantly to the city's
development, and it is a pleasure to commend its members, both past
and present, for their vision, leadership, and commitment; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sonora
Chamber of Commerce and extend to all those affiliated with the
organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Sonora Chamber of Commerce as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
