81R36183 JKB-D By: Craddick H.R. No. 2754 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Rebekah Powers of Midland Memorial Hospital has been honored with the 2009 Belinda E. Puetz Award from the National Nursing Staff Development Organization; and WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is given to individuals who display creativity in their approach to staff development or continuing education and who demonstrate exceptional abilities in leadership and efficiency while working to improve patient care; and WHEREAS, Ms. Powers is the director of professional practice, education, and research at the hospital and has completed a number of degree programs in her field; she earned her nursing license and associate's degree in Illinois and holds a bachelor's degree in humanities from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin; in 2008, she completed a master's degree in nursing and is currently pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Utah; and WHEREAS, This seasoned professional draws on two decades of nursing experience and has numerous responsibilities at the hospital, including supervising the education department and overseeing initiatives that deal with improving clinical and diabetes care; she has created and implemented several innovative employee development programs and has been especially active in efforts to encourage members of the nursing staff to further their educations; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to her colleagues and to maintaining Midland Memorial's reputation for excellent health care, Rebekah Powers has distinguished herself in her work at the hospital, and this award justly recognizes her valuable contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Rebekah Powers on her receipt of the 2009 Belinda E. Puetz Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Powers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
