H.R. No. 2770 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Corrinner McWhorter of Silsbee celebrated her 100th birthday on May 2, 2009, and her long and productive life is an inspiration to her family members, friends, and former students; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mrs. McWhorter was born in New Waverly in 1909 and graduated from Dayton High School in 1927; she went on to study and teach at Port Arthur Business College; and WHEREAS, She married Ira W. McWhorter, and together they lovingly raised a family; the couple settled in Silsbee, where she established the town's first private kindergarten and helped to do the same in the African American community; she continued to teach at All Faiths Day School, imparting her love of learning to countless children before her retirement at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, Mrs. McWhorter served as president of the local PTA, a Camp Fire leader, and head of the children's group at her church; for her outstanding work in behalf of her fellow residents, she was honored with an Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from the chamber of commerce; and WHEREAS, A cherished member of her family and community, Corrinner McWhorter has brought great joy and happiness into the lives of many, and she has earned a special place in the hearts of all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Corrinner McWhorter on her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. McWhorter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
