 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Honorable Avinash K. Rangra concluded his
 service as a member of the Alpine City Council in 2009 after
 distinguishing himself during his six-year tenure as the
 representative for Ward 1; and
 WHEREAS, First elected to the council in 2003, Dr. Rangra was
 mayor pro tem from 2003 to 2006; his efforts helped bring about many
 positive developments, including the resolution of a longstanding
 water pressure problem in Alpine and the creation of a new animal
 shelter and a skate park, to name but a few of his achievements;
 moreover, he was active in the Texas Municipal League, serving as
 the second vice president of Region IV and as a member of the Small
 Cities Advisory Council; and
 WHEREAS, A native of India, Dr. Rangra came to the United
 States in 1962 and earned his Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University; in
 1967, he joined the faculty at Sul Ross State University as a
 chemistry professor and has participated in many important
 initiatives at the university in the decades since, including his
 current service as the chair of the Faculty Affairs Council; and
 WHEREAS, This prominent member of the community has served as
 president of the Southwest Texas Municipal Gas Board, and he has
 taken leadership roles in the Alpine Masonic Lodge and Lions Club,
 garnering a number of awards for his Lions activities; in all of his
 endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Anjali, and
 their child, Amit; and
 WHEREAS, Avinash Rangra has proven himself a devoted public
 servant and involved citizen, and he has demonstrated an admirable
 commitment to making Alpine an even better place to live and work;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Avinash K. Rangra for his service as a
 member of the Alpine City Council and extend to him sincere best
 wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dr. Rangra as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
