 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Johnnie and Joyce Shupak of Frelsburg were named the
 2008 Citizens of the Year by the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce; and
 WHEREAS, Originally from Industry, Johnnie Shupak answered
 his nation's call to duty, and he met his future wife, the former
 Joyce Wostarek, while he was serving in the Vietnam War; the couple
 were joined in matrimony on April 4, 1971, and settling in Mrs.
 Shupak's hometown of Frelsburg, they shared the joy of welcoming
 five children, Charles John, Christopher Dale, Anna Marie, Theresa
 Faye, and David Allen; and
 WHEREAS, Having learned to cook from their parents, Mr. and
 Mrs. Shupak decided to open a restaurant in New Ulm to share their
 love of entertaining with area residents; they purchased J&J
 Pavilion in 2007 and began serving barbecue meals and homemade
 desserts the following year; in addition to maintaining a local
 business, Mr. and Mrs. Shupak regularly volunteer at such events as
 Knights of Columbus fish fries, the firemen's barbecue, and the St.
 Peter and Paul Catholic Church bazaar, and Mrs. Shupak has
 delivered baked goods to the sick and elderly in the community; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, these esteemed Texans have
 nurtured a close-knit family, and their children have been active
 in the family business; their daughter Anna Marie works at J&J
 Pavilion, and while the couple's sons David Allen and Christopher
 Dale work with their uncle at Black Creek Drilling, they often find
 time to assist with the restaurant operations; Mr. and Mrs. Shupak
 also take great pride in their daughter Theresa Faye, who has served
 in the United States Navy and in the Army National Guard, and they
 have been blessed with seven grandchildren, Cody Shupak, Trenton
 Wayne Shupak, Dylan Shupak, Megan Shupak, Hanna Krueger, Heather
 Krueger, and Trenton Alexander Shupak; although their son Charles
 John passed away 16 years ago, the couple have been comforted by
 many joyful memories of him; and
 WHEREAS, With their kindness and generosity, Johnnie and
 Joyce Shupak have touched the lives of their fellow citizens, and it
 is indeed a pleasure to honor them for their contributions to their
 community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Johnnie and Joyce Shupak on being
 named the 2008 Citizens of the Year by the New Ulm Chamber of
 Commerce and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
 success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Shupak as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
