H.R. No. 2823 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A 101st birthday is indeed cause for celebration, and Juanita Newman Williams of Houston marked that significant milestone in her life on May 14, 2009; and WHEREAS, The former Juanita Newman was born in Oklahoma on May 14, 1908, and she married Edward Williams in 1925; the couple enjoyed a long and rewarding marriage and became the parents of six children; Mrs. Williams treasures the time she spends with her family, which today includes her daughters, Barbara Cardwell, Kathy Hamm, and Margarette Clark, and her sons, Edward Williams, Jr., and Jon Gary Williams, along with 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her life, Mrs. Williams has proven her expertise as a seamstress, gardener, and cook; a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, she credits her long life to her faith as well as to the "good genes" she inherited from her mother, who also lived beyond the age of 100; and WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Juanita Williams has witnessed a panorama of change during a historic century, and her 101st birthday offers a welcome opportunity to remind her of the special place she holds in the hearts of her many loved ones; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Juanita Newman Williams on the occasion of her 101st birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
