H.R. No. 2826
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Robert Schmalzried was sworn in as the new mayor of
Edcouch on May 12, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The 25-year-old grandson of former mayor John Edward
Schmalzried, Robert Schmalzried attended The University of
Texas--Pan American; he currently works as a customer service
representative for a medical equipment supplier; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schmalzried first contemplated campaigning for
public office at the age of 18, when he considered a run for the
Edcouch-Elsa school board; persuaded by his mother, Rosa Tanguma,
to learn about the world of politics first, this dynamic young
leader worked on several school board campaigns and studied
political science at UTPA; and
WHEREAS, Now, having won election to the position that his
grandfather once held, Mr. Schmalzried will surely bring new energy
and a fresh vision to leading the community in meeting the
challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Schmalzried on his election
as mayor of Edcouch and extend to him sincere best wishes for a
successful tenure; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mayor Schmalzried as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
