R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Throughout history, the family has served to
protect, nurture, and strengthen its members, preparing them to
thrive in the greater world, and on July 4 and 5, 2009, members of
the Davis family are gathering to recognize the importance of this
enduring institution in their own lives; and
WHEREAS, John Davis, Sr., initiated the tradition of an
annual reunion in 1936 in Madisonville, and since that time,
members of this proud Lone Star family have met on the first weekend
in July for fun and fellowship; and
WHEREAS, The festivities planned for the get-together
include a fish fry, a dance, and the traditional wild stew cook-off;
for many, the weekend represents an opportunity to get reacquainted
and catch up with developments in each other's lives, while for
others, the weekend will serve as a new opportunity to form lifelong
friendships; and
WHEREAS, The myriad contributions made by members of the
extended Davis family are interwoven in the compelling history of
the Lone Star State, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize this
highly anticipated occasion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Davis family reunion and
extend to its organizers and participants sincere best wishes for
an enjoyable and memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Davis family as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
