H.R. No. 2974 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The tenure of an admired public official is drawing to a close as the Honorable William J. Ordner concludes his service as the mayor of Petronila in May 2009; and WHEREAS, A small Coastal Bend farming community, Petronila was established in January 1983, when residents came together to discuss incorporating the area to prevent further annexation by nearby Corpus Christi, and William Ordner has the distinction of being the town's first and only mayor; and WHEREAS, For more than 26 years, Mayor Ordner has ably guided the city, and along with council members, he has addressed such issues as upgrading facilities at the local elementary school, securing funds for the volunteer fire department, and maintaining Belk's Country Store as a source of tax revenue for the community; and WHEREAS, In addition to his civic involvement, Mayor Ordner contributes to the local economy as the owner and operator of Town and Country Pest Control, Inc., and he is also a farmer and rancher; in all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Virginia, and the couple's three children, all of whom reside with their families in Petronila; in retirement, he is looking forward to spending more time with his grandchildren and at his ranch in Beeville; and WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the outstanding efforts of William Ordner have greatly contributed to the development of Petronila as an ideal place in which to live and work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Mayor William J. Ordner on his dedicated service to the city of Petronila and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Ordner as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
