H.R. No. 3049
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Otto Drozd has been appointed as the new chief of the
El Paso Fire Department, and he officially took office on April 20,
2009; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Hialeah, Florida, Chief Drozd earned
associate degrees in business and fire science from Miami Dade
Community College; he went on to receive a bachelor's degree in
public management from Florida Atlantic University and a master's
degree in management from St. Thomas University in Miami; and
WHEREAS, Chief Drozd joined the Hialeah Fire Department in
1986; he was promoted to fire engineer in 1989, to lieutenant in
1991, and to district chief in 1994; he became chief of the
department in 2001; and
WHEREAS, With his appointment as fire chief for the City of El
Paso, this veteran firefighter joins a department with a 127-year
history, and he will be at the head of an experienced team of 800
personnel; and
WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of his profession,
Otto Drozd brings to El Paso 22 years of experience as a firefighter
and first responder, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome him to
Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Otto Drozd on his appointment as
fire chief for the City of El Paso and extend to him sincere best
wishes for success in his new post; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Chief Drozd as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
