H.R. No. 360
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mariachi Dos Mil of Johnny Economedes High School in
Edinburg has achieved great success, and its members are a source of
pride to their school, their families, and all of their supporters
in the Edinburg community; and
WHEREAS, Organized in 2000, Mariachi Dos Mil has helped many
young Texans to further develop their self-esteem, musical talent,
and knowledge of this distinctive aspect of Mexican culture; and
WHEREAS, Members of the 2008-2009 group include Federico
Barrera, Pascual Cruz, Kristina Galvan, Cody-Keith Hernandez,
Maria Andrade, Josue Cantu, Orlando de Leon, Elizabeth Espinosa,
Ray Franco, Andria Garcia, Procopio Garcia, Danny Lara, Rosa
Martinez, Jorge Saavedra, Joe Steven Eguia, Matthew Martinez, Ivan
Perez, Ana Saenz, Michael Santos, Migel Segoviano, and Tiffany
Trevino; and
WHEREAS, These talented young Texans have earned a number of
honors this year; in addition to earning first place in the Roma
Independent School District mariachi competition, the band ranked
second at the statewide Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza; moreover, 13
of its members placed at the Region 15 All-Valley Mariachi
auditions; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Tony Lopez,
Mariachi Dos Mil has delighted Edinburg residents with performances
at Night of Lights, Red Ribbon Week, grand openings, and area senior
centers; the group has also been invited to Austin to perform at the
State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, State Representative Aaron Pena has justly
recognized Mariachi Dos Mil by authoring this resolution in its
behalf during the Regular Session of the 81st Texas Legislature;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby honor Mariachi Dos Mil of Johnny Economedes High
School for its many achievements and extend to its members sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
