No. 473 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Martin Ray Reyna of San Antonio celebrated his 60th birthday on August 23, 2007; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mr. Reyna was born in San Marcos in 1947 to Martin and Raquel Reyna; after graduating from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1974, he attended the University of California at Irvine, where he became involved in the Teacher Corp program; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reyna began his notable career in education in Southern California, teaching in Santa Ana, Pico Rivera, and Placentia before returning to Texas in 1980; and WHEREAS, Settling in San Antonio, he joined the staff of the Harlandale Independent School District and spent many years at Terrell Wells Middle School, where he formed the Get Along Club; under his guidance, this student group volunteered to help clean up the San Antonio River, and their efforts led to the establishment of the annual city-sponsored Basura Bash; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reyna went on to serve six years with the Dallas Independent School District, and in 2001, after nearly three decades, he retired from the teaching profession; throughout his many years as an educator, he had a positive influence on the lives of countless students and earned the lasting respect and admiration of faculty, staff, and parents alike for his genuine interest in providing young people with a strong foundation on which to build; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan also shared his time with the Board of Resolutions for the National Education Association, the Harlandale Teachers Association, which he served as president, and the Texas State Teachers Association, which he served as director for four years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reyna enjoys the love and support of his wife of almost forty years, Margaret Reyna, their children, Michelle Reyna, Marcos Reyna, Merced Reyna, and Martin Reyna II, and their 10 grandchildren; and WHEREAS, With a close-knit and loving family, a distinguished career, and more than six decades of wonderful memories, Martin Reyna truly has reason to celebrate, and he may reflect with pride on the many ways he has enhanced the community and the lives of those around him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Martin Ray Reyna on his 60th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Reyna as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
