No. 520 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Citizens of San Angelo are honoring United States Navy veteran Jerry Kelley with a plaque at the Admiral Nimitz Museum of the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg; and WHEREAS, The son of Grover and Addie Kelley, Jerry Kelley was born near Christoval on February 17, 1928; he attended public schools and went on to attend Victoria Junior College; and WHEREAS, This brave American served his country during World War II as a boatswain's mate, third class, aboard the USS LSM-447, participating in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign; he also served during the Korean War; his decorations include the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one star, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Japanese Occupation Medal, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal; and WHEREAS, After he completed his wartime service, Mr. Kelley went on to hold increasingly responsible positions in the circulation departments of Harte-Hanks newspapers in a number of Texas cities, and he continues to be active in advertising sales; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Kelley is supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Mary, his sons, Jerry and David, and his daughter, Kathleen, as well as by a loving extended family that includes six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and WHEREAS, Americans owe an immeasurable debt to their military personnel, whose brave and steadfast efforts have long secured this nation's treasured freedom, and it is indeed fitting to recognize Jerry Kelley for his distinguished service in two wars; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jerry Kelley on the dedication of a plaque in his honor at the Admiral Nimitz Museum and commend him for his service in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Kelley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
