81R3482 JKB-D By: Callegari H.R. No. 56 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the passing of Hugh M. Hodges of Dallas, who died on November 28, 2008, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, Born to Hugh and Helen Barnes Hodges on October 9, 1923, in Dallas, Hugh Hodges graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before answering his nation's call to duty and serving for three years in the Army Air Corps during World War II; he continued his education after the war, attending East Texas State University as well as Southern Methodist University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hodges was a longtime resident of Garland and was the owner of H&S Sporting Goods for 37 years; possessing a deep love of baseball, he coached area teams throughout his life and was a respected mentor to many young players; he further contributed to his community as a member of the congregation at Monica Park Christian Church; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hodges enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former Mary Jane Ross, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; Mr. and Mrs. Hodges raised two sons, Zachary and Pete, and later welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the family; and WHEREAS, Hugh Hodges was a kind and caring man who will be greatly missed, and he leaves behind a wealth of fond memories that will forever be treasured by his loved ones; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hugh M. Hodges and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Jane Ross Hodges; to his sons, Dr. Zachary R. Hodges and his wife, Anna, and Pete Hodges and his wife, Jordan; to his grandchildren, Krisana, Emily, Haydn Leigh, Peter Ross, and Zachary Alexander; to his great-grandchildren, Roy, Xavier, and Maddox; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hugh M. Hodges.
