R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bonnie Blum of the Bellville Independent School
District has been named Region 6 Education Service Center Teacher
of the Year for 2008-2009 and has received the 2009 Suzan and Julius
Glickman Teaching Award from the Texas Exes; and
WHEREAS, A kindergarten teacher at West End Elementary
School, Ms. Blum earned a preprimary certificate of Montessori
training from the Houston Montessori Training Center in 1987; after
serving as a master teacher and the owner-director of Brenham
Montessori School, she went on to graduate with honors from Texas
A&M University, where her interdisciplinary studies emphasized
early childhood education; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Blum taught at Alton Elementary School in the
Brenham ISD before joining Bellville ISD in 2001; after four years
as a first grade teacher at O'Bryant Primary School, she became a
valued member of the West End Elementary faculty; in addition to her
teaching responsibilities, she served as a mentor to a former
student who is now a fellow teacher at West End; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades, Ms. Blum was
named District Teacher of the Year for Bellville ISD and Teacher of
the Year for West End in 2007-2008; she was also twice nominated as
Teacher of the Year in previous positions; in all her endeavors, she
has enjoyed the love and support of her husband of nearly 40 years,
Bill, a fellow teacher, and their children, Sonja and Monte, as well
as the encouragement of her proud mother, Elizabeth McComb; and
WHEREAS, Teachers play an important role in fostering the
intellectual and social development of children during their
formative years, and Bonnie Blum has helped to set countless pupils
on the path toward success; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Bonnie Blum on receiving the
2008-2009 Region 6 Education Service Center Teacher of the Year
Award and the Texas Exes 2009 Suzan and Julius Glickman Teaching
Award and extend to her best wishes for continued success; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Blum as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
