No. 623 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Velma Villegas of the Southwest Independent School District has been named 2008 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Computer Education Association; and WHEREAS, One of eight TCEA honors presented each year, the Superintendent of the Year award is given to a senior school district administrator who recognizes the importance of technology in the teaching and learning process; the winner is provided with an engraved plaque and is allowed to choose a graduating senior to receive a $1,000 scholarship; and WHEREAS, Dr. Villegas earned the commendation for demonstrating great awareness of the role of technology in classroom instruction and actively promoting its use throughout her district; and WHEREAS, Technology is of ever-increasing importance to students in the information age, and the visionary efforts Dr. Villegas has made to provide Southwest ISD students with up-to-date learning tools are providing them a solid foundation for educational success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Velma Villegas on her selection as 2008 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Computer Education Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Villegas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
