 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 43rd annual Texas Legislative Conference is
 being held in New Braunfels on March 19 and 20, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, A nonpartisan forum, this important statewide
 conference is hosted each year by the Greater New Braunfels Chamber
 of Commerce, with the assistance of dedicated cosponsors and
 associate sponsors; more than 500 Texans representing government,
 education, business, and other key areas come together to focus on
 public policy issues; this year, the state energy plan and economic
 outlook are among the topics to be addressed, and a media panel will
 discuss the 81st Legislative Session; and
 WHEREAS, The conference accords a special honor to an
 individual who has had a positive impact on the Lone Star State, and
 previous honorees include Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Jordan, Lloyd
 Bentsen, Herb Kelleher, and former president George W. Bush; the
 2009 Texan of the Year is business pioneer and philanthropist T.
 Boone Pickens, who will be recognized at a reception on March 19 and
 will deliver the opening address on March 20; and
 WHEREAS, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus will give the keynote
 address; the conference advisory committee, chaired by State
 Representative Edmund Kuempel, also includes United States Senator
 Kay Bailey Hutchison, State Senator Jeff Wentworth, former governor
 Dolph Briscoe, Ray Perryman, and Alan Shivers, Jr.; and
 WHEREAS, For more than four decades, the Texas Legislative
 Conference has provided a vital opportunity for a cross-section of
 state leaders to exchange viewpoints, and the conference sponsors
 and organizers merit special praise for their work on this notable
 event; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize the 43rd annual Texas Legislative
 Conference taking place in New Braunfels on March 19 and 20, 2009,
 and extend best wishes for a productive and enjoyable gathering to
 all those attending.
