No. 734 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, For more than a century, the American Red Cross has been at the forefront in helping Americans prevent, prepare for, and respond to the disasters that affect our country; and WHEREAS, Each year during the month of March, the nation recognizes the American Red Cross and the essential role it plays in our communities; as part of this initiative, special focus is placed on the admirable work of the volunteers, donors, partners, and Red Cross employees who support the organization's mission of humanitarianism; and WHEREAS, Red Cross chapters in Texas responded to thousands of emergencies in the past year, offered support to hundreds of military families, and trained tens of thousands of people in lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid; and WHEREAS, To complete this vital work, the Red Cross in Texas has relied on everyday heroes who lend their assistance in various ways, from coordinating blood drives to making financial donations; by giving of themselves in response to disasters such as fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods, these admirable individuals make things better for those around them and for those they have never met; and WHEREAS, There are thousands of volunteers throughout the state working directly with the Red Cross and more aiding the cause through financial contributions, and their input of time, energy, and resources to selflessly serve others demonstrates the truest meaning of compassion and generosity; and WHEREAS, By lending a hand to those in need and by helping our state to prepare for the inevitable emergencies that lie ahead, the American Red Cross is deserving of the enduring respect and support of all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 2009 as American Red Cross Month and commend the organization and all those who participate in its endeavors for their beneficial work.
