H.R. No. 813
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Students of Aldine and MacArthur Senior High Schools
contributed to the record-breaking amount of money raised at the
50th annual Aldine Independent School District FFA Livestock Show
and County Fair, held January 28 through 30, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the livestock show go toward college
scholarships for Aldine ISD students, and more than $35,000 was
raised at this year's event; and
WHEREAS, MacArthur Senior High School students who won honors
include Cody Cloninger for his grand champion turkey tom that was
purchased for $6,000 and Tanya Ryan for her reserve grand champion
steer that brought $7,000; in addition, Yessenia Nieto's reserve
grand champion lamb was purchased for $4,250 and Melanie Rivera's
reserve grand champion turkey tom earned $2,750; and
WHEREAS, Students from Aldine Senior High also fared well,
including Andre Houston, who showed the grand champion turkey hen
that sold for $6,500, and Ashura Bayyan, who raised the reserve
grand champion pig that went for $7,000; moreover, the school
produced the first-place scholarship cake that raised $900 while
MacArthur High's second-place cake was purchased for $700; and
WHEREAS, These impressive young men and women have
demonstrated outstanding dedication and ability in preparing for
the FFA Livestock Show, and they may indeed take great pride in
their hard work and achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the students from Aldine and
MacArthur Senior High Schools for their accomplishments at the 50th
annual Aldine ISD FFA Livestock Show and County Fair and extend to
all those involved with this noteworthy event sincere best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the schools as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
