 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the reporting of MRSA infection rates in hospitals.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Section 98.103(c), Health and Safety Code, as
 added by Chapter 359 (S.B. 288), Acts of the 80th Legislature,
 Regular Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows:
 (c) A general hospital shall report the following to the
 department:
 (1) the incidence of laboratory-confirmed central
 line-associated primary bloodstream infections occurring in any
 special care setting in the hospital; [and]
 (2) the incidence of respiratory syncytial virus
 occurring in any pediatric inpatient unit in the hospital; and
 (3)  the incidence of methicillin-resistant
 Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections in any unit in the
 hospital.
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
